April 14, 1973

Madhya Pradesh Voluntary Health Association (MPVHA) born at Padhar Hospital, Betul. It was founded by Rev. Fr. James S. Tong under the chairmanship of Dr. D.W. Mategoankar. The other members present were Dr. D.M. Vaidhya (Vice-President), Dr. E.V. Mosses (Secretary), Dr. E.S. Arthur, Dr. V.P. Sukhnanda and Sr. M. Marcella.

1974 - 1980
  • MPVHA formally affiliated to Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) in the year 1974-75.
  • Ms. Marjorie Hill appointed as full-time Promotional Secretary. First brochure of MPVHA published during 1975-76.
  • The management committee started encouraging people’s participation in hospital management. (1977-78)
  • Dr. J.S. Mahashabde (Padamshree) elected as President of MPVHA in the year 1978-79, established corpus fund.
  • MPVHA office shifted from Padhar to MIBE Nursing College, Indore in 1979-80.
1981 - 1990
  • MPVHA launched a special drive of eye camps throughout Madhya Pradesh state under the guidance of renowned ophthalmologist and its President Dr. J.S. Mahashabde. (1980-81)
  • Scholarship programme initiated with the help of VHAI to sponsor candidates of member organizations for training in Community Health. (1982-83)
  • MPVHA opened its membership from hospitals to NGOs working in the field of community health and development. (1983-84)
  • MPVHA registered under FCRA to receive foreign funds. (1984-85)
  • Mr. Raj Bhujbal appointed acting Organizing Secretary. (1986-87)
  • Service rules of MPVHA framed. First State level workshop on National Health Policy was organized. (1987-88)
  • Fr. Joseph Thayil elected as new President of MPVHA. InformationDocumentation Centre established at MPVHA office. (1988-89)
  • Publication ‘School Health Mirror’ was renamed as ‘Health Mirror’ with a broader perspective. ‘Health Policy’ document published and widely disseminated. (1989-90)
1991 - 2000
  • MPVHA was authorized by National Open School, upon initiative of VHAI, for conduction of community health curriculum. (1991-92)
  • VHAI initiated “Khoj Project” in Gwalior through MPVHA. Eight Village Information Centres (VICs) established with the support of UNICEF (1992- 93)
  • MPVHA organized state level workshop on “Panchayati Raj and Health”. (1993-94)
  • Ramesh Nagrath elected as President of MPVHA as well as that of VHAI. (1994-95)
  • MPVHA published a poster series on Seven Themes on the eve of International Women’s Day. MPVHA service rules revised. (1995-96)
  • Lady Frazer, the President of Christian Aid released first audio-health album of MPVHA entitled ‘Swasthya Sargam’. Dr. Jose Sool appointed as Executive Secretary of MPVHA. (1996-97)
  • MPVHA celebrates its ‘Silver Jubilee’ on June 17, 1998. A state level workshop on “Health and Environment” organized and a set of posters released on this occasion. (1997-98)
  • By the year 1998, total 265 organizations/individuals became member of MPVHA;
    These members were spread over in almost all districts of Madhya Pradesh including present Chhattisgarh State. (1997-98)
  • MPVHA’s new building at Khandwa Road, Indore was inaugurated on 15th March 2000. (1999-2000)
  • Dr. C.S. Gandhe elected as a new President of MPVHA. (1999-2000)
  • Mr. Mukesh Kumar Sinha joined as a new Executive Director. (2000)
2000 - 01
  • Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India selected MPVHA as Mother NGO for implementation of Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Programme in Dhar, Jhabua, Khandwa, Barwani and Khargone districts. MPVHA selected its 10 member organizations from these 5 districts to implement the programme as Field Level NGOs (FNGOs).
  • AIDS Helpline Service (1097) launched sponsored by M.P. State AIDS Control Society (MPSACS). Later on first computerised counselling centre started in MPVHA office.
2001 - 02
  • Community Health Promotion Activities, the Core Programme of MPVHA, include activities like Health Workers Training, Health & Panchayat, School Health, Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases, Adolescent Health, Mental Health, TBAs (Dai) training, Anti-Tobacco Campaign, Nutrition, HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, Human Rights and Laws related to Health, etc. were implemented in many districts of Madhya Pradesh, through organizing training programme, seminar, workshops, advocacy and campaign, in cooperation with member organizations, largely supported by Christian Aid,
  • Alternative System of Medicine programme
  • IEC activities and publications further strengthened as a part of Information, documentation and communication. Seven new publications and audio- videos released beside three regular publications, viz. ‘Manthan’, ‘Concern’ and ‘Swasthya Darpan’. Concept of ‘Village Information Centre’ (VIC) Management introduced.
  • With formation of new state Chhattisgarh 120 member organizations transferred to CGVHA leaving 249 organizations with
  • C.S. Gandhe, President MPVHA, elected as a member of VHAI Governing Board.
2002 - 03
  • Considering the health scenario of the state the MPVHA decided to work on ‘Right Based Approach’, particularly in the fields of Violence Against Women, Sex Determination and Female Foeticide, gender issues and advocacy. Six northern districts of M.P., i.e., Morena, Bhind, Datia, Guna, Shivpuri and Sheopur were selected on the basis of poor sex-ratio with the objective to eliminate sex determination and female foeticide by strengthening voluntary movement, sensitizing people, monitoring PNDT Act and checking inhuman practices.
  • Integrated Population and Development Project (IPD) launched in 5 districts, viz., Chhatarpur, Panna, Rewa, Satna and Sidhi, supported by UNFPA.
  • MPVHA in collaboration with VHAI launched ‘Parivartan’ project in Surguja district which is an integrated strategy for socio-economic upliftment of rural poor under ‘Poorest Area Civil Society Programme’ (PACS) supported by DFID, UK.
  • Other programmes/ projects on Community Health, RCH, AIDS Helpline, IEC activities, etc. continued.
2003 - 04
  • MPVHA conducted training programmes on ‘Management of Voluntary Organizations’ and ‘Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Systems for member organizations.
  • ‘Healthy Highway Project’ – Targeted intervention approach for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control among Truckers implemented in collaboration with MPSACS.
  • IEC Scheme of Department of Indian System of Medicines (ISM) implemented in Dhar district in association with member organizations.
  • External Evaluation of MPVHA was carried out for the project ‘Networking and Capacity Building of Voluntary Organizations for Community Health Promotion’.
  • Community Health, RCH, AIDS Helpline, IEC activities, PACS, etc. continued this year also.
  • Professor B. K. Nilosey elected as a President of MPVHA.
2004 - 05
  • Community Health Promotion – Core activities conducted under this programme were: Training of Middle Level Managers/Supervisors/Health Workers of member organizations; Organization of Convention of Health Workers; State level Advocacy Workshop; Training on Establishment and Management of Village Information Centre (VIC).
  • Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases : Conducted Workshop on Revised National Malaria Control Programme; Prevention and Control of New Emerging Life Style Problems – conducted training programmes on RTI/STD/HIV/AIDS.
  • Awareness and training programmes on : Indian System of Medicines; Propagation and Preservation of Local Herbs.
  • State Level Advocacy Workshop was conducted for member organizations of MPVHA which included training on advocacy techniques, laws related to health, direct advocacy and campaign.
  • Regional workshops and seminars were conducted for better implementation of Tobacco Act 2003.
  • Healthy Highway Project, Tele-counselling Project (1097), RCH, PACS, Khoj Project, Violence Against Women, IEC Activities continued this year also.
2005 - 06
  • Social mobilization for Promotion of Iodized Salt Consumption was initiated in 12 districts of Indore and Ujjain Divisions in collaboration with UNICEF and Departments of Health, Education and Women and Child Development.
  • The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India launched Urban DOTS Project for TB Control on pilot basis in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Varanasi and Indore cities of India. MPVHA was awarded responsibility for Indore city to do social mobilization and to enhance collaboration between Public and Private Sectors.
  • MPVHA implemented ‘Tobacco Prevention and Control Project’, in collaboration with ‘Hriday-Shan’, New Delhi, in 28 schools of Indore. Main goal of the project was to make tobacco-free home/school/community using IEC material and manual.
  • KHOJ Project – search for proactive participatory solutions to the problems faced by the tribal community was initiated in 25 tribal villages of Khargone district.
  • MPVHA launched two innovative direct intervention projects on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control in Indore, Ujjain and Khargone districts with support of DFID Challenge Fund.
  • Initiatives under Community Health, RCH, PACS, Ayush (ISM), violence against women, sex-determination and female foeticide continued this year also.
2006 - 07
  • Community Health Promotion continued to remain as main focussed area of MPVHA. Training imparted to more than 1,500 NGO representatives in Community Health, HIV/AIDS, Gender Issues, Adolescent Health, Reproductive Health, Indian System of Medicines, Advocacy, VIC Management, Management of Voluntary Organizations, etc.
  • Intensive campaign continued against gender discrimination and sex selective practices in the state, particularly in 5 districts of Chambal Region where the sex-ratio has drastically declined. Awareness and mass sensitization created through a network of grass-root level organizations which acted as a pressure group. Monitoring of ultra-sonography centres were carried in the region in coordination with respective district administration.
  • As a result of intensive campaign the MPVHA was nominated as a member of the then District PC&PNDT Committee. Member organizations of MPVHA were nominated as members in District and Block Level PC & PNDT Committees in Datia, Bhind and Morena districts.
  • Considering the importance of iodine for better physical and mental growth the MPVHA organized campaign in 25 districts of the state on Universal Salt Iodization (USI) with support from UNICEF.
  • Other ongoing health programmes like RCH, Urban DOTS, HIV/AIDS, ISM (Ayush), Parivartan, PACS, Khoj, Tobacco Prevention continued in various parts of the state.
2007 - 08
  • The year 2007-08 was crucial and important because many National and State Government Programmes were over and new ones launched. MPVHA’s focus areas like Sex-Determination and Female Foeticide, Violence against Women, Tuberculosis Prevention and Control, Direct Intervention with HIV/AIDS infected-affected families, Maternal Mortality, Iodine Deficiency and Promotion of Use of Iodized Salt, Tobacco Prevention, etc. were addressed in campaign and advocacy mode.
  • A network of 150 NGOs/CBOs established in 5 districts of Chambal Region addressing the issue of sex selective practices. District administration issued authority letter to NGO representatives for monitoring and surprise inspection of sonography centres.
  • MPVHA as a member of Indore District PC& PNDT Committee participated in monitoring and inspection of 27 sonography centres of Indore.
  • “MITALI” helpline established at Bhopal and Satna districts for women who have been victims of any kind of violence.
  • Promotion of Universal Salt Iodization (USI) consumption strengthened in 17 bordering districts of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Second phase of PACS and KHOJ projects started.
  • Dr. Ramesh Nagrath elected as a President of MPVHA.
2008 - 09
  • MPVHA added two more dimensions in its networking approach, i.e., coalition and direct implementation of some of the projects to bring visible and qualitative results.
  • MPVHA in collaboration with UNFPA and State Department of Health and Family Welfare initiated pilot project on Communitization of NRHM in tribal dominated blocks of Khargone and Dhar districts. The overall purpose was to improve the Health Indicators in terms of reducing MMR, IMR, TFR, increase in immunization and safe deliveries through an increased role of PRIs, Village Health and Sanitation Committees and ensuring community participation in planning and implementation processes.
  • Promotion of livelihood for HIV/AIDS infected and affected families of urban slums of Indore. More than 25 PLHAs were provided financial support to start new business/income generation activities.
  • A project on Social Mobilization for Prevention and Control of TB was launched in tribal dominated Nalchha Block of Dhar District with support of JRD Tata Trust.
  • Ongoing activities under Violence Against Women, Gender Discrimination and Sex-Selective Practices were further strengthened.
  • Member organizations of MPVHA increased to 287 in this year which were 249 in the year 2002.
2009 - 10
  • Strengthening the implementation of PC&PNDT Act in 10 sensitive districts of Madhya Pradesh, where sex-ratio is alarming, with support of UNFPA. Capacity of the members of State and District level PC&PNDT Committees strengthened through training programmes and IEC activities. Monitoring of Ultra-Sonography (USG) Centres in these districts were strengthened through PC&PNDT Committees followed by advocacy. As a result of these initiatives registration of 4 USG Centres were suspended for one month period and penalties imposed on those as per provisions of the Act. Show- cause notices were issued to 25 USG Centres for irregularities in complying provisions of the Act. Fines were imposed on another 8 USG Centres of Indore district for non-maintenance of records.
  • HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and Livelihood support to PLWHAs further strengthened and livelihood support extended to 44 members of the livelihood network. SHG leaders of SGSY Scheme in 8 districts were provided training to create awareness about HIV/AIDS.
  • Partnership Against Tobacco and Action for Policies, Politics, Legislation and Empowerment (PAT & APPLE) Project launched under the UNION and Bloomberg Global Initiatives with support from VHAI.
  • Other ongoing activities on TB Prevention and Control, Communitization of NRHM, Universal Salt Iodization continued this year also.
2010 - 11
  • Campaign and advocacy about Sex-Selection and Implementation of PC&PNDT Act further intensified in the state. As a result show-cause notices issued and penalty imposed on 40 USG Centres; activities in 3 USG Centres suspended for one month period and in 2 USG Centres for 15 days; and, registration of one doctor of Bhopal was cancelled for 5 years by the State Medical Council.
  • Initiatives under Tobacco Prevention and Control (PAT & APPLE) Project further strengthened and as a result all Police Stations of Indore and Indore Dugdh Sangh were declared smoke-free. State Education Department issued order for smoke-free schools and colleges in 8 districts of Indore Division.
  • MPVHA with support from Healis Sekhsaria Institute, Mumbai and University of Waterloo, Canada initiated a research-cum-evaluation study on Tobacco Control Policy (TCP) India.
  • Activities under various other projects – Sex Determination and Female Foeticide; Gender Discrimination Focussing Sex Selective Practices; HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and Livelihood; and Universal Salt Iodization continued this year also.
2011 - 12
  • Project on Enforcement of Tobacco Laws and Making Public Places Smoke- free in 8 districts of Indore Division is under implementation since 2009 with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies and technical guidance of the Union. With continuous advocacy efforts the district administration conducted raids in Indore city to ban Sheesha/Hookah bars. Divisional Commissioner issued directives to all District Collectors of Indore Division to make public places smoke-free. IG Police issued directives to make smoke-free all Police Stations of Indore Division.
  • The project on Communitization of NRHM continued in Maheshwar Block of Khargone District and Nalchha Block of Dhar district with UNFPA support; and, also continued in Harda Block of Harda District and 4 Blocks of Jhabua District with PACS support.
  • MPVHA in partnership with VHAI and supported by the World Bank implemented Social Mobilization and Service Delivery of Malaria Control (Vector Borne Diseases Control) amongst Vulnerable Communities in selected blocks of Chhindwara, Siddhi and Jhabua districts.
  • PC&PNDT Act Implementation related activities further strengthened and expanded to total 26 districts of Madhya Pradesh including 3 cities of Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior.
  • Professor B.K. Nilosey elected as a President of MPVHA.
2012 - 13
  • Major achievement of MPVHA – Intensive campaign and advocacy efforts being made under the project on “Enforcement of Tobacco Laws and Making Public Places Smoke-free in 8 districts of Indore Division” supported by the Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Union resulted in Declaration of Smoke-free Districts by the respective District Collectors of Dhar, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Alirajpur and Jhabua districts.
  • Building on the work done by MPVHA about “Enforcement of Tobacco Laws and Making Public Places Smoke-free in 8 districts of Indore Division” the Union extended the project as “Integrated Approach for Tobacco Control in Bhopal and Ujjain Divisions of Madhya Pradesh through Institutionalization and Implementation of Sections 5, 6 and 7 of Indian Tobacco Control Act (COTPA-2003)”. The project’s goal is to make public places of 11 districts of Bhopal and Ujjain Divisions smoke-free and sustain smoke-free initiatives in 8 districts of Indore Division.
  • Second wave of the research study on Tobacco Control Policy (TCP) India Pilot Study Survey supported by Healis Sekhsaria Institute for Public Health is under progress.
  • Other ongoing projects/programmes on Saving the Girl Child; Sex Selection and PC-PNDT Act Implementation; Communitization of NRHM; HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention; and, Vector Borne Diseases Control continued this year also.
2013 - 14
  • A project on “Promoting Awareness and Use of Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) and Zinc as Treatment of Childhood Diarrhoea amongst Public Health Providers and Caregivers in MP” launched in Bhopal, Ujjain, Indore and Narmadapuram Divisions of the state covering 22 districts and 135 blocks supported by Clinton Health Access Initiatives (CHAI).
  • “Promoting Community Action for Primary Health Care Focussing Safe Motherhood and Adolescent Health in Bundelkhand Region of Madhya Pradesh” initiated in three PHCs of Sagar, Chhatarpur and Panna districts with support of JRD Tata Trust, Mumbai.
  • Advocacy and campaign continued under “Integrated Approach for Tobacco Control in Bhopal and Ujjain Divisions of Madhya Pradesh through Institutionalization and Implementation of COTPA” supported by the Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Union. Process of formation of State Level Coordination Committee on Tobacco Control started in the state.
  • Other ongoing projects/programmes on Saving the Girl Child; Sex Selection and PC&PNDT Act Implementation; Communitization of NRHM; HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention; and, Vector Borne Diseases Control continued this year also.
  • Dr. Ramesh Nagrath elected as a President of MPVHA.
2014 - 15
  • MPVHA became member of the State Level Coordination Committee for Tobacco Control formed by the State Government in the year 2014.
  • Landmark decisions taken by Madhya Pradesh State Government with reference to Tobacco Control – Total ban imposed on sale of ‘Gutkha’, increase in tax on tobacco products and formation of State Level Coordination Committee. This happened due to advocacy efforts of MPVHA carried out under the Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Union supported “Integrated Approach for Tobacco Control in Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain Divisions of Madhya Pradesh through Institutionalization and Implementation of COTPA” project being implemented since the year 2009. Indore, Sehore and Ujjain districts declared smoke-free by the respective District Collectors. The project is now extended to Sagar and Narmadapuram Divisions of Madhya Pradesh.
  • Campaign launched against Gender Discrimination Focussing Sex Selective Practices in Dhar, Khargone, Sehore, Dewas and Bhopal districts with the support of MISEREOR, Germany.
  • 154 villages of 3 PHCs of Sagar, Chhatarpur and Panna districts were identified for implementation of project, ‘Promoting Community Action for Primary Health Care focussing Safe Motherhood and Adolescent Health in Bundelkhand Region of Madhya Pradesh’ with support of JRD Tata Trust, Mumbai.
  • Other projects on Communitization of National Health Mission (NHM), HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention, Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) and Zinc as Treatment of Childhood Diarrhoea continued this year also.
2015 - 16
  • MPVHA launched ‘Nayan Mitra’ – a fully equipped sight-saving mobile ambulance service in Indore with support from Fullerton India Credit Co. Ltd. and Sightsavers. The project aims to reach the urban poor, especially marginalized population in urban slums of Indore, in coordination with the urban local bodies and private and public service providers to ensure quality eye health service delivery through an effective and sustained urban health system.
  • MPVHA selected for conducting refresher training for ASHA workers in Khargone district under National Health Mission (NHM).
  • With support of Fullerton India Credit Co. Ltd. the MPVHA organized series of 60 health check-up camps in Mhow, Dhamnod and Ujjain for the Fullerton beneficiaries and other poor and vulnerable communities, especially women and children.
  • Other ongoing projects/programmes like Tobacco Prevention and Control supported by the Bloomberg Global Initiatives and The Union; Safe Motherhood and Adolescent Health in Bundelkhand region with support of JRD Tata Trust; Communitization of National Health Mission (NHM) in Harda and Jhabua districts with support of PACS; Gender Discrimination and PC&PNDT Act with support of MISEREOR, Germany; Promoting Awareness and Use of Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) and Zinc as Treatment of Childhood Diarrhoea in 34 districts of 6 divisions with support of Clinton Health Access Initiatives (CHAI), continued this year also.
2016 - 17
  • MPVHA became member of the State Level Advisory Committee on PC- PNDT formed by the State Government in the year 2016.
  • M.P. Urban Slum Eye Care Programme of Sightsavers supported by Fullerton India Credit Co. Ltd. – MPVHA conducted survey in 450 slums of Indore, conducted series of eye-screening camps where total 11,024 patients screened, out of which cataract surgery of 1,204 patients conducted through referrals to designated eye hospitals.
  • Reducing Anaemia and Malnutrition in Madhya Pradesh – A new initiative of MPVHA in 23 districts of M.P. with support of Clinton Health Access Initiatives (CHAI). The project aims to break the inter-generational vicious cycle of malnutrition and to reduce the proportion of both anaemic adolescent girls and pregnant women by 10 percentage points.
  • Institutionalization and Enforcement of COTPA for Tobacco Control initiatives continued since 2009-10 with support of Bloomberg Global Initiatives and The Union. Since then 27 districts of Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Sagar and Narmadapuram Divisions have been declared Smoke-free and Compliant to different sections of COTPA by the respective District Collectors. District Tobacco Control Committee formed in all these districts.
  • Other activities under different programmes like HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control supported by TDH Germany to reduce stigma and discrimination and create supportive environment for HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons with special emphasis on children; Adolescent Health and Safe Motherhood with support of JRD Tata Trust, ASHA Training with support of NHM, Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) continued this year also.
2017 - 18
  • Implementation of nutrition project with support of W.J. Clinton Foundation – CHAI continued this year also in 23 districts of Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Narmadapuram and Jabalpur Divisions of the state. The project aims to reduce prevalence of anaemia in adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women and also to reduce prevalence of underweight and stunting among children by supporting government departments through strengthening the current IFA supplementation programme, increasing awareness and knowledge on anaemia amongst frontline workers of various government departments through driving operational excellence of a large field force of 67 project staff members.
  • Fullerton India Credit Co. Ltd. and Sightsavers India supported M.P. Urban Slum Eye Care Programme – Total 219 Eye Screening Camps conducted during the year 2017-18 in which 10,285 patients screened and cataract surgery of 1,617 patients performed through referrals to designated eye hospitals.
  • Tobacco Control Project with support of Bloomberg Global Initiatives and The Union continued this year also. MPVHA with the help of WHO and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India organized an important event in which the GATS-II fact-sheet was released by the Honorable Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Madhya Pradesh Government.
  • Other projects like HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control supported by TDH Germany; Adolescent Health and Safe Motherhood with support of JRD Tata Trust, ASHA Training with support of NHM, Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) continued this year also.
  • Dr. Hans Kumar Jain elected as a President of MPVHA.
2018 - 19
  • The Project, “Advancing Tobacco Control through Institutionalization of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) through Capacity Building and Ensuring Implementation of COTPA-200 in the State of Madhya Pradesh” is under implementation with the support of International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and Bloomberg Global Initiatives. MPVHA has taken initiatives on tobacco control in 36 districts since the year 2009 in phased manner. These districts are now declared as compliant of COTPA provisions.
  • The International Tobacco Control (ITC) Policy Evaluation Project called as Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Survey in India. This year MPVHA conducted Wave-3 Survey under the research study with support of the Healis Sekhsariya Institute for Public Health and University of Waterloo, Canada. The objectives of the research study are to assess the impact of tobacco control policies; prevalence and patterns of tobacco use behaviour in India; and, to compare the tobacco use behaviour and the impact of tobacco control policies between India and TCP countries.
  • Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) is an approach for learning about and engaging with the communities. It combines an ever-growing toolkit of participatory and visual methods with natural interviewing techniques and is intended to facilitate a process of collective analysis and learning. MPVHA is implementing PLA Programme in Rama and Thandla blocks of Jhabua district with support of EKJUT and State NHM.
  • MPVHA in collaboration with Indian Statistical Institute conducted a study to understand the current status of use of solid fuel and the impact of promotion of use of LPG for cooking.
  • M.P. Urban Slum Eye Care Programme supported by Fullerton India Credit Co. Ltd. and the Sightsaver is under implementation since last four years. This year 12,018 patients screened through organizing 255 Eye Screening Camps. Cataract surgeries of 2,267 patients performed through referrals to designated eye hospitals. Spectacles dispensed to 1,271 patients.
  • Other projects on Reducing Anaemia and Malnutrition in 23 districts supported by CHAI; Violence against Women and Children and PC-PNDT Act; and ASHA Training continued this year also.
2019 - 20
  • In the year 2019-20 another innovative project launched by MPVHA in collaboration with Nutrition International (NI) for reduction of Anaemia and Malnutrition. MPVHA introduced Double Fortified salt (DFS) fortified with Iron and Iodine in 5 Districts of Madhya Pradesh, namely Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Alirajpur and Jhabua.
  • By the time MPVHA started doing intervention in urban area also; MPVHA is implementing a project on Developing Health Promoting Schools (HPS) in Indore with support of John Snow India Private Limited. A Health Promoting School is a school that constantly seeks to strengthen its capacity to promote healthy living, learning and working conditions.
  • MPVHA, member organizations and all the staff of various projects spread in various districts and blocks of the state, put their heart and soul for the prevention, protection and to meet the immediate felt needs of the community, not only by closely standing with them, but also make them aware with indispensable information to fight the Corona Virus (COVID-19). They catered various felt needs of the poor community, extended hands of the local administration, distributed masks and food & ration packets to the most needy and vulnerable groups and made the community acquainted,  with the technical information in a very simple local language, to sensitize them about the importance of protection from COVID-19.
